unethical advertisement by Nivea

All the business is in business is for money . To make their business more benefit every business does advertising. organisations are trying to do more creative to attract the customers to buy their products.for success of one business one company's amin thing is the advertisement . As the generation is growing more technologically so, organisations are focussing more on advertisement. But advertising can be both helpful and harmful also. And here comes the terms called ethical and unethical advertisements.

Ethical advertisements defines that the advertisements are truthful, not deceptive,is backed by
evidence and fair. Ethical advertising which is all about knowing the truth about the product and respecting the truth. ethical advertisements never tries to make the bad impressions on the product or the company after all they are showing the truth. they are not harming the customers.
Unethical advertisements are totally opposite to the ethical advertisements. Unethical advertisements are not truthful, false claims, immoral, misguiding information, against the national and the public interest, degrades the rival's product or substitute product. unethical advertisements are considered to be unethical practice because it causes harm to others.

I want to give my opinion on the Nivea product advertisement. Nivea is a skincare company which produces face creams, body lotions etc.. For one new product i.e a new antiperspirant, Nivea company for the promotions decided to use the tagline "white is purity" on their social media.they featured a woman wearing a white top while looking out the window with the slogan in blue bold letters.

The problem then arises from the advertisement is that the choice of the words of  the advertisement were poorly taken .They specifically targeted the campaign of the people of the Middle East, which led many to be called advertisement racists. In addition, many right-wing groups began promoting advertising, with some stating that Nivea was the official alt-right antiperspirant. Eventually, Nivea released a statement about the advertisement and withdrew it soon after for many viewers to understand the cause and context of the crime.

This social media criticism of Nivea's advertising is part of an ongoing debate in Africa, where there is growing dissent against skin lightening products, called "bleaching creams" in Nigeria.

In the countries where advertisements appeared, almost all are of the same race. Hence the more frequently used term was "colorist" - an attempt to maintain a belief that lighter skin tones are better than dark skin.

For some Nigerians, "good skin is usually fair skin," Rotinwa says. "It is like an indirect colonial legacy, a by-product of colonialism. And if you think that "power belongs to those who are fair, who are mild, then why not look like them?"

In my opinion this is unethical practice done by Nivea company as because they are not respecting colonialism. The  company wanted to state that darker skin tones are not acceptable and they should aspiring to the superior white skin as if lighter skin is a mark of healthy, youth and prosperity. There is a concept in Ethics that without knowing the culture , traditions, religions, habits, living styles we can't do business in another countries because in every countries these things varies so, there choices are also different.

And skin lightening products are popular. According to a 2002 survey of 450 residents of Lagos conducted by the University of Cape Town, an estimated 77 percent use them.
